I am happy to say that I am now the drummer for singer/songwriter Sean Redmond.
Sean Redmond is an exciting new artist at the forefront of the DIY scene. Sharing a background similar to that of folk contemporaries Frank Turner & Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Sean grew up on the punk rock scene in his hometown of Preston where he honed his outstanding virtuoso guitar skills playing in local metal bands.
Having always been a prolific songwriter and realising that screaming and shouting wasn’t the best way to get his message across, he picked up an acoustic guitar and moved to London in 2005 to share his songs of love, politics and surrealism with the masses.
Championed by Huw Stephens at Radio One and Tom Robinson at 6 Music, his accomplished musicianship and vivid imagery have led him to be labelled a male Regina Spektor. Live his shows are delightfully unpredictable, capturing the audience’s attention and imagination whether he is playing solo or with his collective of talented musicians.
2009 saw him independently release his acclaimed first EP ‘I Bet You’ve Never Seen Anyone Do This Before’, swiftly followed by the summer single ‘Consumed’, an ode to drinking he released on a bottle opener. His self-recorded second EP, ‘What Matters Most’, was released at the end of the year, showing off a new style of songwriting and demonstrating what a diverse artist Sean is.
So far this year Sean’s song ‘Shooting Stars’ has been used in Apple’s promotional video for the iPad and with a collaboration on Professor Green’s album, as well as his own debut album imminent, it seems that 2010 could and should be Sean’s year.
